It is situated on the Northern Wairoa River which is the most northern extension of the huge Kaipara harbour. When exporting native timbers was the main business of the area sailing ships could get up close to Aratapu, only a few more kilometres south, and be loaded for southern or overseas ports.
Anything destined for Auckland had to be transported by sea along to the port of Onehungs, or around the tip of the North Island to get to Auckland's Waitemata harbour. Later when the rail was extended it became practical to use smaller vessels to get to Helensville at the southern end of the harbour.
We have now gone to a live on-line database called MOP ('Myra's Other Place') and the records listed below are steadily being copied over. To find a person enter the surname in the target box and presss ENTER. This will list every case of that surname across all cemeteries. To list all persons in a particular cemetery enter the name of the cemetery and change the pull-down option immediately to the left from LAST NAME to CEMETERY then ENTER.
