Mandarana

Mandarana is a small cemetery beside the main road just north of Mackay, perhaps 3 km before The Leap and on the left. It is signposted as 'Mandurana' but apparently that spelling is in error.
Its use dates from the early days of cane growing, and originally had a church alongside, but cyclones and cane fires eventually saw its demise. In fact, it was one of only 2 such churchyard cemeteries known in the Mackay region, according to Mrs Chris Vaughan who lives immediately alongside.
The other churchyard is at Eungella, at the head of the Pioneer Valley.Mrs Vaughan has taken this pretty green place under her wing, and hopes one day to have a small historical display there. It is largely her listing shown here.
